Sleep Disturbance Information
Many situations can cause disturbances in your sleep patterns, and often simple lifestyle changes can dramatically help to improve your sleep quality. But while most people experience occasional periods of sleep disturbance, many others suffer from disorders such as chronic Insomnia, Restless Legs Syndrome, Excessive Daytime Sleepiness, and Sleep Apnea. In these cases, your doctor may recommend that you see a specialist in order to diagnose and treat your disorder.
Breathing through a narrow airway causes a vacuum that pulls on the throat’s soft tissue causing it to vibrate, which creates the snoring sound.
Parasomnias refer to a variety of disruptive sleep-related events that occur only or predominantly during the main sleep period.
This condition is characterized by uncomfortable, unsettled, restless sensations in the legs or feet usually while lying in bed at night before going to sleep.
Excessive daytime sleppiness is a tendency to sleep at inappropriate times regardless of activity or circumstance.
Difficulty falling asleep is known as insomnia and can be caused by many different factors.
It has recently become clear that there seems to be an association between sleep disturbances and ADHD in children and adults.

Professional Information
Most people have a primary care physician, particularly with current health care plans. Unfortunately, most of these physicians have not received any training on identifying or treating sleep problems. If the physician were to add just a few screening questions related to sleep to their routine screening assessment, millions of Americans would be guided into a systematic pathway which could improve their sleep ills.
